Trailer Hitches are (NOT) Just for Trucks!

Working as the social media specialist for CURT it is one of my responsibilities to monitor trailer hitch and towing conversations across the web. While most conversations are rather specific to their medium such as Forums and Facebook, none is more diverse than Twitter. In this week’s blog I’ve decided I am going to address a tweet that I come across a few times a week.

One of the biggest things the trailer hitch has going against it is having a product description in its name. When people hear “Trailer Hitch” they automatically think of towing a trailer down the road. The fact is Trailer Hitches are used for way more than towing. With the economy in rehab and gas prices climbing like the Price is Right yodeler, I am surprised to see that many cars still don’t have trailer hitches. My personal favorite way to utilize a trailer hitch is the bike rack. You can find a hitch mounted bike rack pretty much anywhere you buy a bicycle. Unlike their trunk mounted cousins, hitch mounted bike racks offer much needed access to the trunk and eliminates the need to contact the vehicles paint job.
Other uses for trailer hitches:
- Cargo Carriers
- Wheel Chair Lifts
- Tailgating Grills
- Snow Plows
- Winch Mounts
- Steps
So now I’m sitting here wondering what can be done to dispel this common misconception. The only thing I can come up with is that the Trailer Hitch needs a new name! If you have any creative ideas of a better name to call a trailer hitch I’d love to hear them! Please place your ideas in the comment box below!
