Getting Hitched in June

For the past week I’ve been struggling with a little writer’s block trying coming up with a topic for my blog. Then it hit me…well actually it was delivered to me by the United States Postal Service in the form of a wedding invitation from some close friends of mine. I’ve always been a big fan of weddings. With free beer, free food, free music, and women trying their damndest to look their best, who could go wrong? Neat wedding fact about June’s wedding popularity; while many people believe it to be due to the nice weather, it is actually thought to be attributed to Juno the Roman Goddess of marriage and childbirth. So what do weddings have to do with towing? As it turns out…quite a bit!
The towing industry has long played a role in weddings in many countries. One of the most interesting is a parade-like precession called the Baraat celebrated by many Indian communities. During this precession it is tradition that the groom rides a white horse or carriage pulled by white horses to either the Brides house or other predetermined meeting place. During this journey he is surrounded by his friends and family as they play music, sing songs, and dance.
I don’t think I’ve ever attended a wedding that in some way shape or form didn’t involve a trailer of some kind. I remember going to at least two weddings in my younger years that a pintle was latched to a hay wagon as we took a hay rides to the nearby reception area.
Another outdoor wedding staple (and my personal favorite) that many of us take for granted is the wonder that is the Beer Trailer! For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of pulling the taps on one of the mobile marvels, the beer trailer is an enclosed refrigerated trailer that houses multiple kegs for easy beer access to an event’s guest.
All kidding aside, to me the greatest thing about a wedding is the fact that 2 people can bring so many different people together for one cause. Marriage is one of the very few events that humanity as a race celebrates unanimously. So next time you attend a wedding take a look around you. Whether it’s the music you hear or the food your eating chances are it was a trailer and trailer hitch that made it possible.
If you’ve recently attended a wedding in which a trailer was involved, post the pictures on our Facebook wall by clicking here!
